Following the phenomenal success of the original Ultra Skin, Gardner Tackle is excited to introduce a super rigid version for specialist anglers who want to achieve demanding control over the way finished rigs lay on the lake bottom.

Its stiffness makes Stiff Ultra Skin absolutely ideal for use with a multitude of hook baits and stiff rig terminal arrangements. The extra "stiffness" allows standard soil conditioners to be effectively ejected, and when straightened (steamed), helps reduce knots.

A key technical advantage of a rigid hooklink is the fact that it increases rig responsiveness because the pivot point is firmly set to the nearest flexible point at the hook end of the hooklink (this is the beginning of the stripped section or a broken pivot point in a Stiff Ultra Skin hooklink). This amazing material provides this important stiffness without compromising the strength of the knot or the way the knots are formed. Essentially, this means that the skin will not tear when pulled tight on a properly tied 'figure 8' Loop Knot.

In true angling terms, we recommend that you choose Stiff Ultra Skin in conditions where you are confident that the lake bottom is free of debris and relatively flat, so it will not flare up. This means that 'clean' silt, clay, sand and gravel etc. are ideal substrates to fish over. If you are fishing over spots that are a bit dirtier, it is important to think about the lead setup and how to make sure the rig is unobstructed by debris or lumpy rocky ground. Conversely, if the lake bed is soft then the lead control should ensure that the hook connection does not hold when the lead penetrates the substrate.

However, if you do it right, you can make a wide variety of hinged and combination "style" rigs that just work better.

The matte finish of Stiff Ultra Skin helps the material blend in with the aquatic environment. Of course, this is also helped by the fact that the material sinks well and is more likely to settle in the lake bottom. The colors of the skin and core are matched to maintain this excellent camouflage.

Rigid Ultra Skin strips are clean and will not tear, while a properly tied 'figure 8' knot is stretched into the loop.

The unique polymer blend used in the skin makes Stiff Ultra Skin easily smooth and hard to the touch when steamed.
