Covert Dark Wide Gape Talon Tip Hooks Barbless

The Covert Dark Wide Gape Talon Tip is the latest incarnation in a long line of 'Talon Tip' hooks; with the latest version getting the full Covert Dark upgrade, starting with the all important beak tip itself.

We've changed the shape and length of the Wide Gape Talon Tip's tip, so it's now a nice sweeping curve that's longer, slimmer and much sharper than before. These new longer points are a great improvement that will make hookpicks penetrate even faster and easier.

This latest Covert Dark version features the new stripped Covert Dark plating. This matte finish still provides excellent camouflage, but also ensures that we keep the hook tips absolutely clean and razor sharp. Covert Dark is a super-thin single electroplated layer; and the reduction in handling during the finishing process ensures that the points remain as sharp as when they were made.

Gardner has also upgraded all patterns in the Covert Dark hook range to a standard micro barb format. This change offers two major advantages. First, many commercial fisheries require anglers to use patterns with small barbs since it is friendlier to the fish's mouth, and second, microbarb hooks are stronger since less wire is cut to form the barb.

The combination of a 5° in-turned eye and the beak tip on the Wide Gape Talon Tip is sure to provide an extremely positive hook, as the angle is set at the optimal angle to ensure the hook goes in and stays in. Essentially, the way the hook penetrates, as it is attracted by the directed force created by the hook eye, is just perfect.

The major advantage of a beak tip is the first way the tip grabs hold. When it begins to grip the angle of the point, it naturally helps to hold the hook point in place even if the fish tries to shake the rig free. Another advantage is that the point is less likely to be flipped or damaged when fishing over gravel or other rough types of lake bed.

Covert Dark Wide Gape Talon Tips are made from the same "bomb proof" super strong forged wire as the original Talon Tip patterns.
