Covert Dark Mugga hooks

The legendary Mugga hook pattern has been crucial in the capture of countless large carp. The latest Covert Dark Mugga hooks have received a facelift with some major improvements that make them even better!

Available with barbs in sizes 4 and 6.

 

First, we completely re-specified the shape and length of the Mugga's tip, making them longer and much sharper than before. The new long tapered points are a huge step forward and allow the hook to pierce and penetrate even faster.

 

Furthermore, we switched to the new stripped Covert Dark plating. This new finish still provides excellent camouflage thanks to its matte finish, and also ensures that we keep the sharpest possible point on the hook, because it is a single galvanic finish and the reduction in handling during the finishing process means that the points remain flawless and razor-sharp.

 

We have also upgraded to a micro barb on all new Covert Dark hooks. This offers two major advantages. First, many commercial fisheries require anglers to use patterns with small barbs because this is kinder to the fish's mouth, and second, micro barbs are stronger because less wire needs to be cut out to form the barb. This combined with the longer chemically etched tip has made the Covert Dark Mugga a truly great hook.

 

When you look at the design of the Mugga, it's not hard to see why it offers unmatched hooking potential when used with a variety of hookline materials. The aggressive hook action and strong hooking that the pattern provides are due to a combination of key features that work together perfectly.

 

The combination of an angled, slightly curved shank and a 25° inwardly rotated eye causes the hook to flip over as soon as the hookline becomes tight or the hook eye reaches the edge of the fish's lip. This unique action allows the hook to lock firmly in the corner of the jaw or in the lower lip without the need to add shrink tubing to improve a less effective "like" pattern.

 

Then the orientation between the hook eye and the super sharp straight point creates the best possible angle to help the hook penetrate quickly and firmly. This simply means that you will land more fish.

 

Covert Dark Mugga hooks are made from a forged, high carbon wire that is double-tempered to ensure they are incredibly strong relative to the wire thickness.
