The Covert Dark Continental Mugga hooks feature an extra strong wire, combining the original Mugga's amazing hooking power with the strength needed for extreme fishing situations, with a number of specification improvements rolled out on all Gardner Covert Dark hook patterns.
First, we have re-specified the shape and length of the Continental Mugga hook so that they are longer, slimmer and much sharper than before. The new long tapered points are a big improvement and the shape and tip now make the hook penetrate even faster and easier.
Then we switched to the new stripped Covert Dark plating. This new finish still provides excellent camouflage, thanks to its matte finish, and also ensures that we keep the sharpest possible point on the hook because it is a single galvanized finish. The reduction in handling during the finishing process ensures that the tips remain flawless and razor sharp.
We have also upgraded to a microbarb on all new Covert Dark Hooks. This offers two major advantages. First, many commercial fisheries require anglers to use patterns with small barbs because it is kinder to the fish's mouth, and second, microbarb hooks are stronger because less wire is cut out to form the barb.
The 'Continental' version of the Mugga hook is made of significantly stronger, heavier forged, double-hardened, high carbon steel. Although the hooks are 30% stronger, the wire used does not make them heavy or bulky. This extra strong wire means the Continental Mugga provides the brute strength needed for extreme fishing situations, such as fishing for big fish in cradling conditions or near obstacles.
When you study the design of the Mugga hook, it's not hard to see why the Mugga patterns offer unparalleled hooking potential when used with a variety of hooklink materials. The aggressive hook action and strong hooks they give are due to a combination of key features that work together perfectly. The combination of a sweeping, slightly curved shank and a 25˚ rotated eye causes the hook to turn over as soon as the hook is pulled or when the hook eye reaches the edge of the fish's lip. This unique action means that the hook holds firmly in the corner of the mouth or lower lip without the need to add a crimp to improve a less effective "similar" pattern....
After this, the orientation between the hook eye and the razor-sharp straight point provides the best possible angle to help the hook penetrate quickly and safely. Simply put, this means you land more fish and have less trouble pulling the hook.
Since their launch in 2012, the Continental Mugga has proven to be an exceptionally strong pattern that has grown in popularity due to their reliability and performance. If you are looking for a hook that combines great hooking power with superior strength, you should take a look at this....
